Supporting facade structures

Among other things in view of increasing refurbishment tasks, planning of the building shell is becoming increasingly important alongside planning new buildings.
The usual approach is to adapt a new shell structure to an existing supporting structure.
The aim of the course is to demonstrate the interactions of supporting structures and the building shell with the focus on refurbishment work and also considering the demands of building physics, fire prevention, etc. The course will also deal with new materials and innovative structures in façade design.
After successfully completing the course, students will be familiar with the fundamentals of developing building shell concepts. Students have deepened their knowledge of design and manufacture of façade structures and are capable of developing such a design concept ready for building. Additional excursions and/or workshops will be organised to illustrate the various topics.
